2025 Game Journal
So in the end of 2022, I made the new years resolution to play as much video games as I can for the year 2023, and for each game that I play I wanted to also make a write up about it. Didn't have to be too long but I wanted to keep some record of my experience playing "x" game. For a long time I kept it in Evernote since it was the only note taking app that I knew.
Now why video games? I think usually people use their New Years Resolution as a chance to set a goal that's usually about self-improvement; exercising more, loosing weight, drinking less. I admire anyone who's had a goal like that and actually stuck to it, it's hard to make changes that are good for you I think. And I'm not one of those people, maybe I'm more hedonistic, lazier or just stubborn. Hence the video game journal, because while self-improvement as a goal is very cool, I also think that being able to start and finish a creative project should be equally celebrated. I skipped this goal for 2024 but now that its the end of 2024, I think I want to give this game journal another shot for 2025.
We'll see how it goes!

Devices
Playstation 5: One of the newest addtions to our collection of consoles. A gift partially paid for by my dad. My partner and I wanted this for a couple of games. We finally picked it up for the upcoming release of Monster Hunter Wilds. We also got Alan Wake 2 and FFVII: Rebirth. I'm sure there's more titles we can play with this but the titles I just mentioned are our top picks.
Nintendo Switch: It's 2025 and with the confirmed Q4 announcement of the Switch 2, we are in the twilight months for this console. There won't be much new titles that I'm going to be interested in but I have this console listed since ther are many older titles I want to go back to that just happen to be on the Switch. This will probably update to eventually be the Switch 2, depending how much I want to get it.
Windows PC/Steamdeck: These two are not totally interchangeable but for this Journal's sake they are. We do plan on getting a proper gaming PC pretty soon for Monster Hunter Wilds, I haven't done a lick of research on the best way to find and acquire a gaming PC and I'm cutting it pretty close to the MHW release date... steamdeck is here for now but it'll definitely be too weak for Wilds. The steamdeck is my main method to play some games that are Windows/Linux exclusive, we hook it up to our tv and use a bluetooth mouse and keyboard to play confortably. It's probably the most confortable gaming setup we have right now!
Ambernic handheld console: This is the cutest little pocket device I've ever received and pre-loaded with a stacked library of retro titles. Even the Mother 3 english patched version! Curiosly not Chrono Trigger though, which seems more of an obvious add compared to a patched Mother 3 ROM. Clearly, someone is a Mother 3 fan in the group that help develop this. Anyways, this thing is amazing and I'm absolutely excited to take it with me everywhere I go. It's also a great way to play games that I definitely would not normally reach for.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5: My daily driver for phones and a great conversation piece. Also another gateway to some other random games like Cookie Run and Balatro, I'm sure there will be at least two more titles to add here.
